Skill Overview
Renewal prep often lives across CRM fields, call notes, usage dashboards, support tickets, QBR decks, procurement comments, and manager inspection. The renewal-risk-brief Codex skill gives Sales / Account Managers a repeatable way to convert those fragments into a concise account brief before forecast review, renewal negotiation, or executive escalation.
The skill is intentionally focused on account judgment and communication. It does not update CRM records, change forecasts, approve discounts, or make commitments to customers. It helps the account owner name the renewal risk, separate evidence from assumptions, and decide the next practical save motion.
Intended Role
This skill is designed for Sales / Account Managers, account executives handling renewals, renewal managers, and account owners working with Customer Success partners. It is useful when the account owner needs a manager-ready or executive-ready view of a renewal that may churn, contract, delay, or require escalation.
Required Inputs
- Account basics such as customer name, ARR or contract value, renewal date, product package, seats, term, current forecast, and renewal owner.
- Usage and value signals such as active users, feature adoption, business outcomes, QBR notes, success-plan progress, and ROI evidence.
- Stakeholder and relationship signals such as champion health, economic buyer access, executive sponsor status, stakeholder changes, or political blockers.
- Support, delivery, and product context such as escalations, incidents, implementation delays, product gaps, workarounds, CSAT/NPS, or support sentiment.
- Commercial and process signals such as price pressure, procurement timing, legal blockers, competitor mentions, expansion opportunity, budget changes, payment risk, or concession requests.
The skill can work with imperfect data. It labels unknowns clearly and asks for clarification only when the missing data would materially change the risk rating, save plan, or commercial recommendation.
Expected Output
The skill produces:
- Executive snapshot with customer, renewal date, ARR or contract value, risk rating, forecast implication, and recommended commercial posture.
- Evidence-based scorecard across health, usage, relationship, support/product, value realization, and commercial/procurement signals.
- Risk narrative that names the strongest causes of renewal risk rather than listing every concern equally.
- Stakeholder map covering champion, economic buyer, executive sponsor, blockers, missing relationships, and next engagement target.
- Save plan with actions, owners, deadlines, dependencies, customer-facing ask, and success metric.
- Commercial recommendation for protecting the base, handling contraction or delay risk, escalating internally, pursuing expansion, or making conditional concessions.
- Optional customer-facing follow-up or internal escalation note.
- Assumptions and data gaps to verify before changing forecast or communicating externally.
Validation Scenario
The included eval set checks three realistic Sales / Account Manager situations:
- A commit-forecast renewal with falling usage, champion transition, price pressure, unresolved SSO friction, and missing CFO access.
- A mid-market retail account with store closures, seat contraction risk, budget delay, a friendly VP, and future analytics expansion potential.
- An enterprise security renewal where stable engineering usage and expansion interest are outweighed by security trust, data residency, legal, and procurement blockers.
The expected outputs verify that the skill separates churn, contraction, delay, and expansion risk; labels unknowns; identifies missing power relationships; uses conditional concession guidance; and avoids overpromising product, support, discount, or roadmap commitments.
Operational Limits
This is a low-risk analysis and communication workflow. It does not connect to CRM, email, support systems, usage analytics, billing, contract systems, or product-roadmap tools. It should not be used as approval to change forecast categories, offer discounts, commit roadmap dates, make legal concessions, or promise support outcomes without the relevant human owner.
The brief is only as reliable as the account information supplied by the user. Human account owners should verify contract terms, procurement dates, economic-buyer priorities, usage definitions, support ticket ownership, and concession authority before sending customer-facing messages or updating forecast.
Maintenance Expectations
Review this skill when the team’s renewal process, forecast categories, health scoring model, discount policy, executive escalation path, CRM fields, product packaging, support escalation process, or legal/procurement workflow changes. Refresh evals when common renewal motions change, such as enterprise co-terming, multi-year consolidation, public-sector procurement, consumption-based pricing, or partner-led renewals.
Related Existing Skills
Current public resources show a growing set of sales, account management, and Customer Success skills. The closest matches are broader account-management or CS-health skills; the airoweb artifact stays narrower by focusing on the renewal risk brief and save plan that an account owner needs before a live renewal motion.
